Join the support committee for Jakhi McCray on 04/18 as we honor Palestinian Prisoners Day and international solidarity between Black and Palestinian revolutionaries during an evening of poetry reading. Hear from radical poets in our community, and read your own work. There will be light refreshments, as well as tabling to fundraise for Jakhi’s support campaign.

Free Tha Land DAPS’s distribution program, operates every Friday in South Shore, are collecting donations for hygiene amenities and clothing resources. Every donation allows them to continue addressing the needs of the community, fighting back against state manufactured resource scarcity in our beloved neighborhoods, whilst providing monetary support for 3 of Our Movement’s Political Prisoners.

Fundraiser Film Screening for Jakhi McCray!

Gather for a screening of Eyes of the Rainbow (1997, dir. Gloria Ronaldo, 47 mins.). After escaping prison in 1979, Black Liberation Army leader and revolutionary Assata Shakur found political asylum in Havana, Cuba, for more than 40 years. Dedicated to “all women who struggle for a better world,” Ronaldo’s documentary offers a rare glimpse into Shakur’s first-person experience of exile and her reflections on the Afro-Cuban diaspora. 

Before and after the screening, grab a drink and learn how to tap into the support campaign for Jakhi McCray. Jakhi McCray is a 22-year-old student, committed organizer in anti-imperialist movements, and beloved member of communities across New York and New Jersey. He is facing federal persecution for allegedly setting fire to ten police vehicles belonging to the 83rd precinct in Brooklyn, New York. He faces charges that carry up to 20 years of incarceration. 

All proceeds from this screening will go to Jakhi’s support campaign, which is raising urgently needed funds to cover his material needs while on house arrest, support for upcoming court dates, zines and campaign literature, and restitution and commissary should Jakhi be sentenced to time in prison.

Aziz (Pseudonym), a comrade from Columbia University currently seeking asylum after being forced into political exile for their organizing.

Hany Abu-Assad, 2005, 90 min). ‘In Defense of the Rocket’ brings together footage from more than 20 years of Palestinian political life with the ambition to uplift armed resistance and reframe the Western debate around the use of violence. ‘Paradise Now’ follows two Palestinian childhood friends as they prepare to execute an attack on Tel AViv, ostensibly in the final hours of their lives.

Join Crown Heights Bites Back as they honor and uplift revolutionary black history, marking key historical moments and anniversaries of resistance and liberation.

We’ll recognize and support black political prisoners – including a letter-writing campaign for those still imprisoned by the state – and raise funds through plate sales and button sales, with proceeds going toward CHBB weekly distributions and comrade Jakhi’s legal support fund. Come through for food, community, and music from our DJs as we honor our revolutionaries and martyrs and continue the struggle forward together.
