Fundraiser Film Screening for Jakhi McCray!

Monday, March 30, 7 – 10pm

Starr Bar in Bushwick, New York

Tickets: https://tinyurl.com/5E6JFP56

Gather for a screening of Eyes of the Rainbow (1997, dir. Gloria Ronaldo, 47 mins.). After escaping prison in 1979, Black Liberation Army leader and revolutionary Assata Shakur found political asylum in Havana, Cuba, for more than 40 years. Dedicated to “all women who struggle for a better world,” Ronaldo’s documentary offers a rare glimpse into Shakur’s first-person experience of exile and her reflections on the Afro-Cuban diaspora.

Before and after the screening, grab a drink and learn how to tap into the support campaign for Jakhi McCray. Jakhi McCray is a 22-year-old student, committed organizer in anti-imperialist movements, and beloved member of communities across New York and New Jersey. He is facing federal persecution for allegedly setting fire to ten police vehicles belonging to the 83rd precinct in Brooklyn, New York. He faces charges that carry up to 20 years of incarceration.

All proceeds from this screening will go to Jakhi’s support campaign, which is raising urgently needed funds to cover his material needs while on house arrest, support for upcoming court dates, zines and campaign literature, and restitution and commissary should Jakhi be sentenced to time in prison.
